Organised by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), World Cancer Day takes place on 4th February each year.
This year the theme was 'together it is possible' a reference to the need to work together to reduce premature deaths from cancer and other non communicable diseases by 25% by 2025.
Campaigns organised by UICC and partner organisations took place all over the world to raise awareness of cancer and the burden of preventable disease. In the UK more than one in three people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. In Scotland alone, over 14,000 male and 15,000 female new cancer cases were diagnosed in 2009.
