Breathing Space at NHS24 is delighted to win the top prize in the Innovative Mental Health Services category at the Holyrood Digital and Care Scotland Awards 2022, for the pilot of a web chat service, alongside the traditional telephone support line.
In 2019, BS introduced a web chat tool to support service users as a pilot project. The system allows users to communicate in real-time with specialist advisors, using an easily accessible web interface. The pilot is set to expand in 2022.
People seeking support from Breathing Space would have an alternative to using a phone to reach the support available. Feedback was positive with comments such as, ‘…a really great idea for those who maybe just might able to get things across better without needing to talk to somebody’.
Tony McLaren, National Coordinator, Breathing Space said:
“This award is a fantastic recognition of everyone who delivered the Breathing Space web chat service.
Despite the challenging circumstances of the last 2 years Breathing Space advisors have continued to offer therapeutic support to people in distress by phone and web chat every day of the year. So many of us have had to adapt to working in new ways and we are delighted to have been able to develop this project which offers an alternative option for support to the people who rely on our services.
Our fellow nominees have showcased some exceptional projects and we extend congratulations to them as well our thanks to the organisers and sponsors of these Awards and such an enjoyable ceremony.”
The Award ceremony took place on the evening of 22nd February at InterContinental Edinburgh the George.
